DRAGONS SHOOT DOWN BUCKS IN OT
Brandon Amirault scored the overtime winner as the Powassan Dragons snatched a win from the Brock Bucks 6-5 at the Sportsplex on Friday night.
Jonah Coonishish and Justin Huycke had 2 goals each for the Bucks, while DJ Champagne added a single in the win. Amirault also added 3 assists. He now has an impressive 17 goals and 23 points in 14 games.
Myles Mitchell, Matus Duris, Mark Zavorin, Stanislav Sherbakov and Denis Anafakin scored for the Bucks.
Dragons goalie Martijn Oosterwijk got the victory in goal turning away an impressive 58 shots. The Dragons host the Deseronto Storm next Friday night. The Storm are led by the league's leading scorer Brad Clark who has 52 points in only 16 games. Game time is 8pm at the Sportsplex.

DRAGONS GAME POSTPONED
The Powassan Dragons announce that the game agains the Algoma Avalanche that was to take place on Friday night will be postponed due to the H1N1 virus that has infected some players from the Algoma team. The game will be re-scheduled for another date. Meanwhile, the game that was postponed from last Sunday against the Elliot Lake Bobcats will take place on Saturday night in Powassan. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30pm at the Sportsplex.

DRAGONS STRIKE AGAINST MOOSE
The Powassan Dragons broke out of their 9 game losing streak with an impressive 8-4 victory over the Toronto Moose on Saturday night in Toronto.
Brandon Amirault led the Dragon attack with 4 goals, while Justin Huycke had 3 goals in the win. Stephane Devost chipped in with 3 assists. Jeff Heinzer also scored for the Dragons.
Jon Minard, Gord Whyte, Nicholas Del Plavignano and Michael Ivo replied for the Moose.
Newcomers
The Dragons had 3 new players in their lineup which were acquired from the Innisfill Lakers for future considerations.
The trade helps bolster the defence with the addition of Houston, Texas product Jeff Heinzer and Soco, Maine native Michael Scally.
Also part of the deal was 20-year-old forward Clay Wente from Reston, Virginia.
Cancellation
Dragons officials say due to transportation issues with the visiting team, the Dragons have cancelled the Sunday's game between the Elliot Lake Bobcats and the Powassan Dragons which was scheduled for 3:30 Sunday afternoon in Powassan. The next Dragons home game is next Friday as they once again host the Algoma Avalanche at the Sportsplex. Game time is 8pm.

AVALANCHE TRIM DRAGONS
The Algoma Avalanche, fresh off a 7-2 beating of the Deseronto Storm on Thursday night came into Powassan and walked away with a close 2-1 win on Friday night. Stephan Devost scored to give the Dragons a 1-0 first period lead before Mark Orazietti and Adam Delayer scored in the 2nd and 3rd periods respectively to give the Avalanche the victory.
Martin Oosterwijk was spectacular in the Dragons net stopping 45 of 47 shots on the night. Bradley Hewitt picked up the win for the Avs. The Dragons now travel to Toronto on Saturday night before returning home to host the league leading Elliot Lake Bobcats on Sunday afternoon at the Sportsplex.

DRAGONS GET BUCKED
Brock Malatches had 3 goals and 2 assists to lead the Brock Bucks to a 12-3 thrashing of the Powassan Dragons in GMHL action on Saturday.
Stanislav Sherbekov and Sultan Amirkhanov had two goals each for the Bucks.
Cody MacKinnon had a goal and an assist for the Dragons. Eric Langford and Dan Madigan had the other goals in the loss.
The loss drops the Dragons record to 1-7 on the season. The next Dragons home game is on Friday October 16th as they host the Algoma Avalanche. Game time is 8pm.
RATTLERS TAKE A BITE OUT OF THE DRAGONS
Powassan put out one of their best efforts of the season but came up short at the Sportsplex Friday night.
The Russian attack featuring KHL product Artem Podshendyalov was too much to handle for the Dragons as they were outscored 3-1 in the middle frame en route to a 7-4 Rattlers win.
The first period was a tight contest with the teams tied at 2-2 with Dragons forward Brandon Amireault with his first two of the hat trick and Stanislav Izvekov and Podshendyalov scoring for Bradford. Ivan Lyaskevich put the Rattlers ahead with a late goal in the last minute of play of the first.
The Rattlers went up 6-3 in the 2nd on goals by Matus Matis, Izvekov and Boris Stukalin while Zane Pitawanikwat replied for the Dragons.
The Dragons came out with a determined effort and cut the lead with a goal from Brandon Amireault to turn the trick but it was answered with Matis scoring his 2nd of the game to round up the scoring.

DRAGONS MAULED BY BOBCATS, BURIED BY AVALANCHE
The Elliot Lake Bobcats used 7 different scorers en route to a 7-3 win over the visiting Powassan Dragons at the Centennial arena on Friday night.
Jakub Rybinar, Greg Hyde, Patrick Smolen, Kenin Filthauts, Chad Burrows, Branislav Jankovic and Edward Sedivy scored for the Bobcats who outshot the visiting Dragons 58-19.
Dan Madigan, Stephan Devost and Justin Huycke scored for the Dragons in the loss.
As they moved west on Saturday, the Dragons fell behind 4-0 in the first period eventually losing 8-4 to the Algoma Avalanche. Justin Huycke, Brandon Amirault, Jonah Coonishish and Stephan Devost scored for the Dragons. Jason Perron took the loss in goal as he faced 46 shots.
The Dragons next home game is this Friday, October 2nd as they host the Bradford Rattlers at the Sportsplex. Game time is 8pm.

DRAGONS CAN'T HOLD OFF BUCKS
The Brock Bucks came into the Sportsplex very hungry for their first win of the season going 0-3 to start their campaign. They took very little time to start when Alex Vasilenchenko and Myles Mitchell scores back to back early in the first to put the Dragons on their heels to start the game. The game went back and forth for a few more minutes with the Dragons peppering goaltender Cayden Edwards but could not beat him and the Mark Zaforin scored to make it 3-0. Dragons capitain Justin Huycke found the net before the end of the period to close the gap going into the second period.
In the second period, the Dragons came out with determination and grit but could not score in the middle period and brock countered with two goals from Stanislav Shcherbakov and Zaforin to end the period 5-1.
The Russian imports carried the play for most part of the third period with their strong puck possesion game. Cody Mackinnon scored on the power play for the Dragons and the Bucks replied with 2 unanswered goals from Shcherbakov and Mitchell to round up the scoring.
Next game for the Dragons is this Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Sportsplex when they host the Elliot Lake Bobcats.

DRAGONS TAKE SEASON OPENER
Brandon Amirault scored 3 times to lead the Powassan Dragons to their first in in their new lair 6-3 over the Minden Riverkings on Friday night.
Dan Madigan, Cody Mackinnon and Zane Pitawanikwat scored the other goals for the Dragons in front of a crowd of close to 250 at the Powassan Sportsplex. Justin Huycke and Stefan Devost each picked up 2 assists.
Martijn Oosterwijk got the win in goal for the Dragons stopping 17 shots in the victory. Next up for the Dragons is a home date with the Brock Bucks next Friday at the Sportsplex. Game time is 8pm.
